About Us

Family

We are a family friendly snowmobile club that enjoys snowmobiling and camaraderie.  We meet monthly, both for business and social. In addition we have at least one annual trip up North, various fundraisers, radar runs (similar to a race, but not a race), poker runs, and various other activities.

The majority of our time is spent snowmobiling in the Wonder Lake area trails.  The main focus of the club is to ensure our network of trails stay open and connected, which means we are responsible for negotiating with the landowners for permission (MAJOR often forgotten/overlooked task), clearing of trees and obstructions, marking, grooming, and at season end, marker removal of the snowmobile trails in our territory.

Truth be told, an awful lot of time is spent ribbing each other about which sled brand is more superior; of course we all have our favorite!

When & where we meet

We meet every 1st Tuesday of the month (Oct-Apr), predominantly at Rusty Nail in Ringwood at 7:30pm in the back room.  The address for Rusty Nail is 4520 Ringwood Rd, Ringwood, IL 60072 (815) 728-3017.

Why join

Snowmobile trails don’t maintain themselves nor do they fund themselves.  It takes us…the riders to ensure we have trails to ride for us, our families, and friends for today and the future.  Some other key reasons to join a club are:  To LEARN, collectively there is a wealth of knowledge about our sport be it equipment, fixing, tweaking, and/or improving your sled.  To SHARE a story or memory of a past trip or adventure.  Riding a lone is okay…but riding with FRIENDS or meeting fellow club members at local eateries/bars on the trail is so much more enjoyable.  And the main reason to join a club is for the FUN!

Our club has no mandatory attendance or requirements, come and go as you wish, help or volunteer as you are comfortable, observe or lead based on your personal preference.  Bottom line, just come on out and enhance your enjoyment of the sport.

If you choose not to join a club, please consider a donation which goes towards the trails you enjoy.  Insurance alone is $1,400/yr. plus over $3,000 per year for groomer maintenance and fuel (and that's an unpaid volunteer driving that groomer).

Trails

Trails

Our trail system runs from Johnsburg to Ringwood to N. McHenry to McCullen Lake to Wonder Lake.  Our trail system is over 48 miles miles and are connecting to Boone and Lake County trails in Illinois and can also be ridden up into Wisconsin.

IMPORTANT - We have to greatiously thank our 48 different land owners for their permission to use their private property for our snowmobiling enjoyment!!!

The cost to maintain our trail system is over $3,000 per year, which is funded through fundraisers, memberships, donations, and some county funding.  However that is only the outpouring of money, in addition it costs the labor of love.  We are a volunteer organization and as such, the drivers of the groomers, and ALL the effort to prepare, mark, and maintain the trails are the result of hours and hours of volunteer work.  Next time you see the groomer on the trail, give him room and a "Thank You Wave".  He's volunteered to groom your trail for your enjoyment, he would rather be snowmobiling or with his family, but he's volunteered to make your ride more enjoyable.

One of the sources of income for the snowmobile club is through map sales.  Maps cost only $3.00 each and can be obtained at the following locations:

- Rusty Nail

- Dusty's Pizza

- Halftime Bar and Grill

- And many other locations (every location advertised on the map)

In addition, maps can be mailed directly to you.  Please send $3.00 and a self addressed stamped envelope to:

Three last points on trails:

  1. Always check snow conditions before heading out (815-334-7669)
  2. Trails are marked for a reason, stay on the trails
  3. Trails go through private property, it’s a privilege to ride through their property, be courteous and follow the signs with the hope we’ll be able to use their private property again next year.
